Based on Halliday's systemic functional linguistics approach and discourse analysis, this study. The researcher mainly analyzes Emma Watson's speech, which focused on several mood and modality types. From the mood structure analysis of interpersonal meaning, there are 72 subjects and 71 finites. While for residue elements, there are 66 predicators, 65 complements and 39 adjuncts consisting of 34 conjunctive adjuncts, 8 circumstantial adjuncts, and 2 mood adjuncts. The researcher discovered there are 90 declarative moods and 5 interrogative moods. Declarative is the mood type that dominates in the speech. The result of modality is about 44 modals in total. The modality types consist of 10 modals of low degree, 28 modals of medium/middle degree, and 6 modals of high degree. Watson tends to use a declarative mood that aims to provide information about something to the audience, about gender equality and how men should also be involved in the campaign. The researcher found that the dominant type of modality is middle degree modality. One textbook and workbook level 3 of Super Minds series were analyzed using a MI checklist from developed by Botelho (2003); Estaji & Nafisi (2014); and Kirgoz (2010) based on the review of the related literature and frameworks of the theory of Gardner (1983). As many as 596 activities were analyzed from the textbook and the workbook. The result showed that the analyzed textbook and workbook primarily addressed verbal/linguistic intelligence (40.60%), also included a fair number of activities related to bodily/kinesthetic (12.42%), interpersonal (11.41%), visual/spatial (11.07%) and logical/mathematical (10.74%) intelligence. Musical (6.71%), intrapersonal (4.36%), and naturalistic (2.68) intelligences were the least dominant types in the textbook and existential intelligence did not particularly exist in the examined activities. It is recommended for the textbook developers that a variety of intelligence types in materials for young learners could be distributed evenly.
2024-03-25T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2024 JoELE : Journal of English Lingua Educantum https://instructionaljournal.com/index.php/JoELE/article/view/245 The Advantages Of A Flipped Classroom For Students' Speaking SKills: Systematic Review 2024-02-14T15:58:22+07:00 Kemalasari Astrid Widyadhari kemalasariastridwidyadhari@gmail.com Tanti Priyanti kemalasariastridwidyadhari@gmail.com Zaenal Umar kemalasariastridwidyadhari@gmail.com
The aim of this study is to provide a systematic review of the advantages of a flipped classroom for students' speaking skills. before carrying out this systematic review for the methodology, the researcher searched the publication data on Google Scholar for 2018-2023 regarding flipped classroom and speaking. it was found 97 data, which were anlyzed through the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) to 28 data.
